ISSUE FOCUS : MEDICARE PORTABILITY

One of the major domestic concerns in the United States is the over-haul of the US health care system, whichincludes the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

The draft legislation on health care reform, at its present state, is focused on more pressing matters within the health care system,i.e, universal coverage andutilization of Medicaid benefits.

Central to the debate on the health care reform aretwo key issues:(1)the apparent staggering cost that would follow the passage of the bill and: (2) who would shoulder thecost for the transformation of the health care system.

PNA - Maryland Celebrates Achievements of Past Two Years and Inducts New Officers

       Fe Nieves-Khouw MSN,RN

December 19,2010 saw one of the biggest snow storms in Baltimore City closing allbusinesses except for hospitals and news agencies. It also closed Martin's West, the venue for PNA-Maryland Vhristmas party. It is a wonder that Dino Doliente, outgoing president of PNA-MC was checking the daily weather forecast for December 18, 2010? It was touch andgo for the snow the first part of the week, but the second half of the week of December 13 was predicted to be sunny, cold but clear of snow. Dino could finally breathe a sigh of relief. All preparations were finalized and the PNA-MC planned to celebrate with a big bang.

December18, 2010 was indeed a special day capping two years of extraordinary activities and accomplishments achieved with Dino Doliente III at the helm. We were heartened that despite prediction of a big snow storms inNew Jersey, cherished friends made the car trip to Baltimore. So did friends from Pennsylvannia, Metro D.C., New England and a dear colleague all the wayfrom Missouri.Of course, friends, family and colleagues from the local Maryland area joined us in thefestivities. Dr. Patricia Travis, President ofthe maryland Nurses Association graced our program as featured guest speaker....read more

PNAMC SPONSORS SAN LORENZO RUIZ FEAST DAY MASS

October 2, 2011 - Today, PNAMC members joined other organizations in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia in celebrating the feast day of San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino canonized as a saint. The mass was a celebrated at the Cathedral of Mary the Queen in north Baltimore and was attended by hundreds of Filipinos. PNAMC was represented by Board MembersDino Doliente III, Vicky Navarro, Bing Casal, Cindy Kiamko, Lil Salada, Virginia Alinsao, Heidi Franco, Fe Nieves-Khouw and others.

Today's celebration was a culmination of a tridium of prayers. Last Tuesday,September 27, prayers were sponsored by PNAMC and attended by Love Eugenio and Janet Brigoli.

The mass was followed by a fellowship salo-salo where PNAMC served various desserts including cupcakes, cheesecake and donuts. The reception was sumptuous as each organization brought food to share. In the usual Filipino fare, every one left satiated with Filipino food. There was even a show of Filipino dances performed by upand coming young dancers.
